Six Mile Lake P.P. is located on 2024 Joe King's Rd, Port Severn, ON. The park is right near Highway 400 and is one of the numerous lakes that dot the area. We visited on the 31st of May, 2024.
The park was protected and developed in 1958, and was expanded in 2004.
The park is called Six Mile Lake because the lake was originally measured at around 6 miles in length. It's actually around 5 miles.
The activities at Six Mile Lake include:
- birding on the various trails and ponds
- discovery program from the pavilion
- swimming on the 3 beaches
- beach volleyball
The trails at Six Mile Lake are as follows:
- Living Edge Trail 1.2km moderate; wanders through a wetland and rocky outcrops. Lots of rare animals including 26 rare species.
- Marsh Trail 1.1km moderate; encircles a wetland - great birdwatching
- David Milne 0.6km moderate; see a lake that inspired famous painter David Milne.
(sorry for the sideways images - it's due to a Google Sites glitch; apologies)
After passing the park sign, you'll see a split road and a park office. The road sways left (unless you turn right and go to Pine Campground), going toward the day-use area, with a dog beach, volleyball court, pavilion, lookout, and parking. If you continue you straight, you'll see the other campgrounds (Birch, Lakeview, Poplar, Oak, Maple, Cedar). The trails will be on the left.
While on the trail, turn left at the David Milne Trail and left again at the Marsh Trail. After this, find the Living Edge Trail and turn right. You will see everything in a route that is approximately 3 kilometres.
Book a site in Birch Campground - best location and they're electrical.
Bring your boating buddies! They'll enjoy it.
Bring a kayak or canoe onto the lake.
This park is one of the nicest in the Parry Sound/Central Ontario area. Very scenic waters and trails, and you can please the speedboatin' and "gone fishin'" crowd. I liked the park - 6/10.
