Mono Cliffs P.P. is located on 795086 3rd Line EHS, in Shelburne, ON. The park known for its beautiful rifts and valleys (caves, included) as part of the Niagara Escarpment. We visited in December 2022.
In the 1970s, the government started buying up properties in the Mono Cliffs area for the purpose of protection and recreation. The park was first opened in '85, and was most recently expanded in '95.
The town of Mono is likely named after the Spanish word for monkey.
The activities at Mono Cliffs include:
- biking available on all trails
- snowshoeing and skiing on all trails
- birdwatching for the area's natural species
The best trails:
- Walter Tovell Trail 4.8km moderate; this trail traverses woodlands and goes alongside picturesque ponds
- Clifftop Side Trail 2.8km moderate; this trail goes atop the escarpment providing great views of the surrounding area and access to the boardwalk pictured on the left.
- Carriage Trail 1.3km easy; this trail is your access point to the rest of the park.
Drive into the parking lot and enter the trail. See the map below for routes.
